holy summertime.
July and August are often the months in which students on summer break, the elderly, families or solo travellers meet in the same places and create a surprising crowd to enjoy the special and sacred moments of the holidays. Whether it be kids at school dreaming of sandcastles or employees at work imagining the sea, all look forward to the sunny holidays. As I travelled through the Italian, French and German seaside over the past summers, I remember being fascinated by the nostalgic atmosphere of the places visited and amused by the way in which the people and landscapes seemed perfectly joined together. Nothing can disturb the summertime atmosphere or shake the quintessential happiness of these places. The photographs taken fully reflect the way I feel towards these places and moments in time. Through this work, I also seek to understand how our relationship to these forests, mountains or beaches that used to be our adventure playgrounds as kids, change. In the process of growing up, we tend to look at these places through different eyes and bring new perspectives to our cherished childhood memories. The photographs reveal the grace, drama, tenderness and excitement permeating these holy moments. These transient summer moments are metaphors for the warmth and joie de vivre that often feel just beyond our reach.
