The series is part of the project The Royal Road: in transformation started in Iran in 2016.
It is a visual exploration of the dualities that prevail throughout Iranian society, resulting from the metamorphosis the country is going through in recent times: the opposition of tradition and modernity, religion and desire of emancipation, and the confrontation of local and global cultures. The documentary also delves into the ways in which the rich and diverse natural landscape of Iran has continued to be transformed by urban and architectural development as a result of the country’s growth.
The primary expression of these dualities can be seen through the urban landscape and natural environment. It is also seen through the people of Iran, as these dualities impact them in their lives. The project depicts the shift in the pluralistic landscape of Iran, its changing society and the evolution taking place amid a conflict between acceptance and denial. The work does not aim to represent modern Iran, but rather the journey the country is going through to achieve it.
